We have performed several thousand vasectomies under local anaesthetic using the modern “no-scalpel” technique. Because the procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic, it is much simpler and cheaper to perform than female sterilisation.

Dr Shane Dunphy is an experienced Wellington GPs, with a strong interest in men’s health.
Our nurses are very experienced having worked for Family Planning performing pre-vasectomy consultations and assisting with vasectomies.

What is a vasectomy?
A vasectomy is a sterilisation procedure performed on men to prevent them having any or more children. It is the safest and most effective method of birth control.
It is more reliable and much cheaper than female sterilisation (tubal ligation) and can be performed under local anaesthetic with minimal discomfort

Making an appointment
Our nurse will arrange a time for a telephone consultation prior to your vasectomy.
Following this consultation we will make the booking for your operation. These are usually performed on a Friday to give you a chance to recover over the weekend and to minimise your time off work.
